Nori Sheet

Nori sheets are used to wrap the sushi rice and sushi fillings. It looks dark brown and taste umami and has a lot of natural minerals and vitamins to offer for our body. It is a vegan seaweed also called alga and sea-vegetable.

Sushi Rice

Sushi rice is also called sticky rice, it originates from Japan and other neighbouring Asian countries. Recently, I found that sticky rice is exported from Italy as well, which is a substitute to the sushi rice and but not recommended. 

Sushi Vinegar

Sushi vinegar is a mixture of sugar, salt, and rice vinegar, which is prepared as per taste preference. However, sushi vinegar is available online and at Asian supermarkets as well.

Sesame Seeds 

Sesame Seeds are used to garnish the sushi rolls. You can use white or black sesame seeds or mixture of both. Sesame seeds are nutritious and offer saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats, proteins that are good for skin and heart.

Vegetarian Sushi Fillings

There are huge array of options to choose from, to fill your sushi rolls, for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. You can fill you sushi rolls with fruits like mango and avocado, vegetables like cucumber, carrot, sprouts, and lemon.

Here are a few common non-vegetarian sushi fillings

Raw fish like salmon and tuna, seafood, crab stick and caviar, and grilled chicken and beef, deep fried tempura and pickles.

Soy Sauce

To dip your sushi rolls, you can use light soy sauce or dark soy sauce – that must be your choice.

Marinated Ginger

Marinated ginger is also called Gari. It is eaten to clean the taste palate.

Wasabi Paste

Horseradish paste – it is eaten to cleanse the taste palate and also has a few health benefits.

Spicy Mayonnaise

You can make spice mayonnaise at home by adding togarashi and sriracha and mixing it well.

Sushi Garnish

To garnish sushi rolls – you can use sesame seeds, caviors, tempura bits, parsley, carved fruits and vegetables.
